The dismantling of the pedestrian bridge
16 August, 2024
LLC "Tbilservice Group" is dismantling the pedestrian bridge in front of the House of Justice. The work will be completed in a few days.
An expert assessment revealed that the bridge is in a severely hazardous condition. The conclusion from the Bridge Testing Center at the Georgian Technical University indicates significant damage and defects across the structure. It was also noted that during construction, the drainage system, roadway, railings, stairs, and other details were incorrectly and inadequately installed. Additionally, the conclusion clearly states that the bridge cannot be safely used in its current state and requires thorough rehabilitation and reconstruction, effectively meaning complete demolition and the construction of a new bridge.
The ongoing demolition work was inspected on-site by the director of "Tbilservice Group," David Pachulia.
"A pedestrian crossing and traffic lights have been installed near the pedestrian bridge, allowing citizens to move safely without any obstacles. Consequently, the existing deteriorated bridge has essentially become non-functional. Complete demolition of the structure and construction of a new one was necessary, which would have cost several million GEL. Furthermore, the bridge is not adapted for people with disabilities and was generally uncomfortable for pedestrian use," noted David Pachulia.
He also explained that the decision to dismantle the pedestrian bridge was made by the municipality based on public safety concerns.
